This place doesn't believe in baths. Since I have been here, I have had one tub and one shower. A list is kept, and you wait until your name comes up! I will surely tell my doctor when I go.

Fanu
(1993 January 12)
Fanu was here for lunch. She is tall with a big brown bob, rather a toothy smile, wears boots and turtle necks. Has taken a long cruise given by family acquaintances - Jamaica etc. Lives in Spring Green. Husband gives talks at Edgewood, etc. Pictured.

Milk
(1993 January 12)
I have been chuckling all morning over an incident at the breakfast table. ... There is always a glass of juice, which we all drink. There is a service plate in front of each. Then comes a bowl of cereal, hot or dry. Owen is a dear man, gentle and slow. Wears glasses, doesn't see well. There is always a pitcher of milk, a pewter pitcher about 14 inches. This morning we all drank our juice. Then Owen took the big pitcher and was just about to pour the milk on his bare plate when Ron caught him. " No, no," he said. "Not until you get your cereal to pour it on." Owen nodded and Ron put the pitcher down. What a difference a minute would have made! Fancy. The milk poured over the bare plate. I have been entertained all morning just thinking of it.

Celebration
(1993 February 24)
I have just come from the dining room where all the revels are held. I sat next to Margaret Scott, who was busy holding sips of a beverage, pink, to celebrate MardiGras, to the lips of a poor one who could not raise the glass herself. Our priest was here earlier with HolyCommunion for me.

Flasher
A girl on duty goes with flashlight and flashes in every face. Is this to determine life or death? I don't know. Figure out a way to scare her out of it for me.

Snow day
(1993 February 22)
Sharlee Sharteeno, our weather man, told of No School all over today due to big drifts of snow over the road. Jealous, Sally? The plows will be out shortly tho. Last night the high wind went Ooooooooo. I just saw a plow with blinking lights go by, yet the wind shaking the trees. Thermomenter [in her room] 80 degrees- must be out of order.

State Journal didn't come. Bill, who is handling that, says he'll see. Friends say, "Where's the paper?" [Later] Bill here with the paper!
