I gave Geraldine the radishes [left over from Xmas]. "Nope. Who would eat them? They cause gas." I will boil them. "What about the onion?" (The salad onion you bought.) "Well -- I might chop it up with my venison for supper." So that found a use. In her pocket. Her mittens are very holey, and I must give her some tan yarn next week.

Geraldine tells me about her son who drinks yet gave her $50 for Xmas, and her granddaughter who pierced her own ears and had to write 50X she would never hurt her body again.

Canny surprise

Geraldine was here today cleaning me up. We folded sheets, and I ironed pillow cases, and when she carried it all up[stairs], she was gone a suspiciously long time and came down so proud. "The big one is all made up," she said, "and I used the old ones in the cupboard."

Workhorses

There is a team of 4 or 6 [horses] that goes thru here in the fall to join some old timer occasion. I like those strong horses and always look them out at the fair.

I was glad I decided to go to the concert as my headache went off. The pianist wore an off shoulder red gown on which seemed to be red Xmas tree lights which twinkled. Showy for the provinces, I thot.
