The last thing [on the tour of the Schmitt Home]: over the front door hung a big carving about 2 X 3 feet out of one piece of wood, butternut, done by Roy Dingle, who has apple orchard you may recall. Just "Schmitt Woodland Hills." Beautiful. He used to call for me to go to a night class so I wouldn't have to call a cab.

Tour

(1993 February)

Today after lunch this nice man at our table suddenly came to my side and said, "You said you haven't looked over the whole place and wanted to; so I thot now would be a good time to do it." Off we went, and I think four floors - up and down with the elevator - a room of nice looking people being fed, and the laundry washing and ironing. I became very tired. ... He showed me the place all right. I was so tired. Kicked off shoes and fell on bed and slept instantly.

Tam

when asked what I am knitting, I have learned to say hat, as no one knows what a tam is. "What's that?"

Bridge

I heard on Tuesday we are to play Bridge. What that means, I do not know. A Teacher coming in? Also I was asked on a survey if I played. I said Auction but could stand practice in Contract.

Juiced

Girls come around with glasses of fruit juice - apricot, cranberry, etc. I also have a glass of water. Thinking c was w, I poured it over the violet.

Popcorn

"All those who want popcorn may come to the kitchen and get it." I was taking a good nap.

Landfills

(1993 February 17)

I rode in the elevator to an auditorium to hear an expert talk on Landfills with a screen illustrating. Really very dull, and I didn't stay to the end.
